It’s not really a group, since it’s pretty much just a one-man translation project. I initially planned to just release the chapters anonymously on /a/ but then I wouldn’t be able to update the releases on Manga Updates so well, here’s a site.

Obligatory Disclaimer etc
I’m doing the translations out of my own personal interest and in no way do I profit from any of it. Also, I certainly encourage fans to go out and purchase the works if you really like them.

I’m just curious though… do you recruit people to typeset or clean?

  2. Bori says:

That’s funny, I was actually thinking about doing the same myself since teams get inactive just too often. May I ask what’s your Japanese level? around N2 on the JLPT? I’m around N3 so I’m still hesitant about it, I wonder if I’ll manage to do it well everytime :S
I was thinking about adding manhwa as well since I pretty much have the same level in both languages but I’m not sure.. Do you think an N3 level would be sufficent to take on a project?

    • Bookwurm says:

I’ve never formally tested for JLPT so I don’t really know what’s my level, but having looked at some of their resources, I’d say around N2 to N3. I should also add that before picking up Japanese, I’m already pretty well versed in Chinese and that helped out on the kanji a fair bit.

Now I can’t really say what level is needed to translate manga, because it really depends what titles you’re planning to do

For my case, Those who Chase the Ageha was relatively easier to translate so perhaps an N3 is sufficient as this manga doesn’t have really complex stuffs, mainly straight forward conversations and dialogues so if you’ve got your basics in grammar down then you’re good to go, maybe just check the dictionary once in a while.

On the other hand, Wa!(Kojima Akira) is somewhat more difficult, mainly because of the “Breaks” where the two girls references a whole bunch of stuffs, uses some slangs and there’s a bit of word play here and there. For instance, there was the bit where they referenced some jargon used in Japanese comedy so I ended up having to read up the Japanese Wiki. However, my background in the Chinese language helped me out as some of the references or terms shared similar meanings in both languages so I didn’t have to read up as much.

Anyway, here are some resources that you may find useful:

Thanks for replying so quickly! Yeah I guess you must be some kind of kanji monster if you good at Chinese xD
So yeah I should really be picky on what I translate~
I didn’t take the JLPT either, I was just referring to the requirements mentioned in the Sou Matome, Minna no Nihongo and such.
Thank you for your links! I only already new jisho.org πŸ™‚

Oh, and I meant to ask you, why did you take on danshi koukousei from chapter 77 when the previous teams stopped at chapter 42?

  4. Bookwurm says:

The chapters before that have already been adapted into the anime and it’s pretty much a faithful adaptation so I decided to just translate the new materials.

  5. Bori says:

I see, thank you for your work anyway! Xxx

  6. Alexandre Brochu says:

Are you planning to do T-Moon Complex X 08 (it came out in august and i found some raw, but it would be better to have something to read instead of just looking the pictures :p)

    • Bookwurm says:

Is it the same as the one on wakachan.org/fate? Because that one’s in Chinese and the quality isn’t very good.

  7. lifeanddeath2012 says:

Just wanna thank you for scanlating the rest of Cromartie High School. I’d tried doing it myself years ago, but I was inexperienced and gave up quite quickly. Just happened to google it last night and found your site.

I’m really enjoying being able to finish the rest of the series.

    Thanks again.

  20. Bashiek says:

    Dear Bookwurm-san,
Hajimemashite. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. Thank you very much for translating this series. I loved the anime, and it is always fun to read the manga and see the characters in other scenarios that did not get animated.

I was wondering if you would be willing to translate the Kuroko no Basuke Replace Chapters? You can find the list at the link below:

Some translations of a few chapters are floating around the Internet, but nobody has done an official translation. I asked a couple of other people for help, but they couldn’t help. If you have the time, would you be interested?

Thank you for your time. Take care.

    Sincerely,
    Bashiek
